I bought a Cort MR-740FX acoustic guitar about two years ago. I bought new strings for it about two weeks ago and decided to clean it a bit, I bought D'Andrea Lemon Oil and used it sparingly on the fretboard. I then wiped it away with a dry soft piece of cloth. The dirt from my fingers was totally removed and the fretboard became very clean, but now I begin to find lots of very small bright brown lines on the fretboard, and the fretboard is losing its dark brown rosewood shade. I don't know if it's because I used the lemon oil. What is happening to my guitar's fretboard?

Thanks a lot.

Well Lemon's do have acids... And maybe that was how it was before? But it could of done somthing to the wood. Did you use a bit to much or leave it on to long? And does the wood feel weaker or anything? Maybe it got wet? Just look for reviews and see if it done anything to theres.

Could be dirt that is pressed in the wood's pores. Rosewood has no finish on it, so dirt gets in. Hard to say without seeing those lines.

Don't worry about it. Rosewood naturally has streaks to the wood. I would imagine that the neck was dyed and now you're getting to the "natural" shade of the wood.

use some sort of cleaning agent, i have seen this happen to many guitars with dirty fretboards. I would recommend naptha. scrub really hard, and i would use linseed oil rather than lemon oil but the stuff you have will work fine.
