I have a BC Rich Mockingbird (bronze series, I think) that I strung with Not Even Slinkys and keep tuned to B-standard (B-E-A-D-Gb-B). I dig the new thunderous sound, but the string tension blows. I don't know if it's a 24.75" or 25.5" scale and have thought about getting a baritone neck to deal with the problem. Is there another way around this predicament? Also, which pickups can anyone recommend for it? I have the old Jackson M-series hummers in it which have a decent sound but they squeal and scream rather than feedback musically.

A baritone neck is one solution. Changing to heavier gauge strings is another.

Tuning down is going to cause these issues. Especially tuning down that far. Using heavier gauge strings should increase the tension some.

Can't answer on the pickups. Not much of an electric geek. Mostly acoustic for my playing. I usually only deal with electrics when recording them. (Then my second job hat goes on, because people don't seem to take care of their stuff, so I have to play guitar tech if we want a decent recording.)

1) If you're tuning to B, why not look into a 7 string?

2) For that low of tuning, a Dimarzio DSonic in the bridge might help.

*small chuckle* Well, Not Even Slinkys are 12-56, so I already have heavier strings. I was looking for tips that have little to no cost, but it seems I'm out of options. As for the pickups, I already have them picked out (both Dimarzio; the Mo' Joe and the D Activator X) so I just have to work up the shit I need to order them. I've also been looking into 7-string guitars (Ibanez rules that realm; I have my eyes on the RG7327 or the Universe UV777) which will not only deepen my sound, but will also refine my technique. Any ideas I can use on the Mockingbird that won't run me dry?

I use 56's for open C tuning and find the strings too floppy. I'd be going to 62's or something similar for B.

go buy a 7 string set and drop the high E. tune it the way you should B-E-A-D-G-B, worse case scenario yo might have to tweek the truss rod but if your tuning to B you shouldn't need to adjust anything.

I must agree with above and say go buy a 7 string guitar, you can get an ibanez for cheap with fixed bridge. GC has em 299. i have a friend that wants to sell his for 200 with a case.

you could get a set of strings for a 7-string and just use the bottom 6, get the baritone neck, or get a 7-string. each would work ok i think.

*chuckle* I've already thought about the bari neck and the 7-string (that I won't desecrate by playing it without the top string); my only problem is that I have no money. I'm working on that little snafu, though.

a tech could set it up for you.

there are a couple things i would do first, mind you things "I'd" do.

I would first off tightn the russ rod about a half a turn. then posibly raise the bridge a touch then retune. see if tht helps.
these are the things i would do, not saying you shoulddo them just what i would do.

I've already jacked the bridge into the stratosphere, but never really thought about the truss; I'll see what that does and thanx for the tip. I'll also keep working towards getting a baritone neck and/or siebensaite.

if you get strings for a 7 and put them on a 6, will that mess up the neck pretty bad? im guessing you could just fix it by adjusting the truss rod but id want to be sure. if it doesnt affect the guitar enough, id suggest doing that if you like using your guitar and dont want to buy a whole new one.
