yes this is possible, but personally i wouldnt invest extra time and money into a squire. if you are gonna stick with the fender stuff, go for a standard stratocaster. they are not a bad guitar for the money and you will be more satisfied in the long run. you can buy one for around 350-400 dollars (us). you are gonna spend at least half that much doing the things you are talking about with the squire. a true fender will also be easier to sell later if you should ever decide to do so. squires dont hold value very well.

however, this is just my opinion so good luck on whatever you decide.

for heavy low end sound, nothing pleases my ears more than a gibson with a nice strong set of humbuckers. i have heard many fenders that i liked, though. this is mostly a matter of opinion. i cant quite afford the gibson stuff right now. i have an epiphone LP custom flametop and i have been well satisfied with it. a few years ago i put in a set of duncan pickups and i liked it even better.

i dont know what is actually involved with stringing a guitar upside down for left hand use. i know hendrix did it, but if i were left handed i think i would look for a guitar the was made in a left hand version. they seem to be fairly accessible.

I would go to your local music store and check out the Made in Mexico strats. You'll probably get everything you wanted for your Squire rebuild, only cheaper and with less hassle.

Unless there is sentimental value attached. I put new pups and saddles on my JK-20 because I like it so much, new pups and wiring on my Predator because it's just cool, and I'm looking for new pups and a baritone neck because I'm (bleep)in' cheap. It all depends on what you want to do/have money for and what's plausible (say you want a synth pickup hard installed on a Taylor Presentation series. There are people who will murder you for it). In your case, a new guitar may or may not work, so try the upgrades first. You'd need to take your neck to a luthier for the new fretboard, but the pups are a breeze. Also, look around warmoth.com to see where you want to take your sound as far as tonewoods go; they have a great selection and pretty good prices.

i don't know why, just has sentimental value to me. I love what I have already been able to do with it, I just want to see how far I can take it. still looking around to see, thinking about some lace sensors.

*smile* Sounds like me with my JK-20; thain't no way I'm getting rid of that one. All I've done is new pickups (Carvin M22's), new saddles (GraphTech), a new nut clamp, a couple truss adjustments, and the occasional set of new strings (obviously; Ernie Ball reg. Slinkys). If you don't mind the bigger hole, you can rout your Strat for a bridge humbucker like mine is. The Lace Sensors would probably do you pretty well, though. Do you know what kind of fretboard wood you want to try?
