Never tried the Damage Control pedal, but I've heard good things. I *have* tried the Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Mayhem, and I can tell you it's amazing.

If you want a really hard scoop, an EQ is the way to go. BOSS and MXR make the two that everyone seems to want these days. Check out the GE-7 from boss and the 10-Band from MXR. All you have to do is make the sliders look like a "V". However, I don't recommend doing this as you will find that your guitar will easily get lost in the mix.

Sorry for the late response, but can you tell me what you mean by my guitar getting lost in the mix like lost of tone? Also would having a 10 band EQ would give better control of the sound is the BOSS just better?

The guitar is meant to be a mid-range instrument. Cymbals, vocals and other high-tone frequencies will compete with the guitars high tone and the bass and bass drum will compete with the low end. I don't know if this is as true for live playing as it is for recording - but if you are planning to record with that "scooped" tone it may be tougher (not impossible) to get a good mix.

well for just bedroom level volume or practice you can get away with just about any kind of scoop mids that you desire but in the live situation you can literally dissapear in the overal mix of a group. especially with heavily scooped mids on a solid state amp. but you are just looking for different sounds at home. fact of the matter is that there's NO pedal that will really change the amount of gain from that amp. throwing a distortion box in front of it will make it sound very ,very muddy.....you could try an EQ. that can give you a slightly tighter "more" scooped sound. but i would avoid distortion pedals. what you MAY want to look in to is a 4x12 cabinet. a closed box like that will really give a tight punchy thicker overall tone. and i believe you can use your marshall to power it. because what it really sounds like you are looking for is a BIGGER sound. a 4x12 will most certainly do that........

Alright cool thanks, would a full tube amp be better too, or can I just stick with my hybird or pre amp and go with the cabinet, any sugesstions for that this only my 2nd amp and itd be my first cabinet so Iam pretty clueless

I was also wondering how does metallica get thier scooped mids (thats what they use right?) and still have thier sound or not get lost, or do they not scoop the mids as much as I think?

Actually, Metallica used a pretty hefty midrange from what I heard. Hetfield's favorite setting was Bass-8 Mid-8 High-5, if I remember correctly. They just used a ton of gain to get that thick, heavy tone.

As far as the amp...I used to say that all tube was the only way to go. I have to say that my mind is slightly changed on that. I still prefer the full, rich harmonics that only tube amps can provide, but Randall is one company that makes some amazing hybrid and full solid state amps. I was blown away by what I heard when I tried their T2 amplifier, which has an all-tube preamp section, but a MOSFET power section. Their RH-150 amp is equally amazing. It sounds distinctly solid-state, but in a very pleasing, very Metal way.

well if ya got the $$$ for a tube amp, then by all means get one. marshall dsl, tsl. mesa boogie..go to a guitar center and try some out....but your current marshall will sound a heck of a lot bigger with a cab so i would get the cab first and see how ya like the sound. then should you want something different, you get look into getting a nice tube head.....you will probably find that with the right head, you'll have no real need for a distortion pedal.

Yeah thats really the only promblem, I got my AVT 50 marshall for $250 and the cheapest full tube amp I seen was $600 but I dont do gigs or anything big like or even little stuff, so its not a real big deal but I will look into the cab and stuff.

Also your saying once I get a cab I can get a tube head instead having to buy a tube amp?(sorry Iam newbie to these kind of stuff)

correct.....amps come in various options

a head + a cabinet
a combo
or a rack system

kind works like so......an amplifier has 3 sections...the pre-amp(where the knobs are and such)....the power amp....and the speaker(s). a combo amp has all three in one box..... a head has both the pre-amp and the power amp in it......and a rack mount system is comprised of all the pieces parts seperate(usually consistiting of a pre-amp,a power amp,and any of an assortment of effect units as well all in a rack box)...then that box is plugged into a speaker cabinet(s)...

if you look in the back of your marshall ,you should notice that the speaker is actually plugged into the head with a small cable. you can simply unplug that cable and run a SPEAKER cable from the head to a 4x12....you don't want to use a regular guitar cable.....you want to use a SPEAKER cable. you'll also want to make sure you mathc up the ohms ratings. most cabinets(not all) but most cabs are take a 4 ohm load. and your marshall more than likely puts out the same. you may want to read the back panel just to make sure. but you can take your amp to a store with you to make sure you get the right set up......
