i was playing the solo out of Metallica's "one" today, i can play the tapping part alright but it doesn't sound the best, i was wondering how to achieve a better sound when tapping? any tips would be appreciated.

In that particular solo, I believe Kirk actually taps with his pick instead of his finger. I have the song book for it and that is what it says.

you just have to tap fast in that solo. It's not pick etc...
Start slow that go faster...

Hey try changing your distortion, or use a humbucker do change the tapping sound.
If you don't manage to get it, just say something to us.

Yeah he uses a pick in that one -you can hear it.

With tapping in general though its like sluring in your other hand -instead of simply 'poking' the string and bouncing your finger off it you want to hammer on and most importantly (yet often neglected) "pull off" with your tapping finger. It'll give yuo a smoother sound and you'll get used to it after a while. If not relevant to "one" then at least remember it for future tapping.
