This was an intresting album by the Eagles. It was done at a time when Don Felder was being brought in and Bernie Leadon was getting ready to leave the band. It could be argued that Leadon was playing "Newgrass" long before bands like Allison Krauss and Union Station, and Nickel Creek came along. The Eagles were leaving the country sound in favor of a more edgy, guitar laden sound at that time. Felder's influence can be felt in songs like "James Dean" and "Good Day in Hell." Leadon can be heard in songs like "My Man" a tribute to the late Gram Parsons, and "Midnight Flyer" with Randy Meisner on vocals and Leadon on Banjo. The Eagles seem to go from one end of the Country/Rock spectrum to the other and the result is amazing!
This is my favorite VH album. From "Mean Street" to "One foot out the door" this is some of VH's best work. The album was their least successful offering, which means they must have been doing something right if top 40 is any indication of what is a success. It's dark, especially for Van Halen. It loses the whole party till ya' puke thing in favor of something more sinnister... "you see a gun is real easy, in this desperate part of town, turns you from hunted into hunter, go and hunt somebody down."
Just an all around great album. Featuring Warren Haynes, the late Allen Woody, and Matt Abts. Gov't Mule did an outstanding job on project.
The Dregs are one of the most unique bands I've ever listen to. There's not a single song on this album that sounds like the others. Featuring Steve Morse, Andy West, Allen Sloan, Rod Morgenstein, T Lavitz. Anything this band does is impressive, but this happens to be one of my favorites.
