C Major and A 'Natural' Minor
AddThis Social Bookmark Button
I hear way too often from beginning players 'why do I need this?', meaning scales, and so we then start talking about what they listen to. You can't compose, improvise, or otherwise create without scales. Enough, no more soapboxing for me, but here in this lesson is the beginning of a multi-part conversation that begins with C major and it's relative A minor. They're relatives because they share the same notes. The C scale reads like this...

C D E F G A B C

And A 'natural' minor reads like this

A B C D E F G A

I place the word natural in quotes because there are 3 types of minor scale: Natural, Harmonic and Melodic. Those will covered in a later lesson! So in the meantime have fun will these and if I could give one practice tip it would be to make every effort to achieve a really clear tone. Speed comes natural once you have fluid motions at a slow speed.

Cositas Buenas
It's Flamenco with gang vocals. For any of us who have been granted the luxury of travel, actually, you know what?...you don't even need to ever have had a passport to hear or taste or smell Andalucia. "Cositas Buenas", as a studied player from North America has moved me as a player but more importantly as a human being. Harmony is the sweet and the savory of life and on this record they are both over-flowing!

Grace
It's hard to speak on behalf of an album like this in technical terms. It disgraces it when analyzed, but flourishes when consumed. Amazing contribution to our culture by Jeff, the band, and producer Andy Wallace. He will be missed!
 Price: $5.49
D'Addario EJ20 Nickel Wound Jazz Extra Light Electric Guitar Strings
I throw these bamf's down the throat of my Anderson and Les Paul for scorching tone and amazing longevity.
