Hi! I`m thinking about buying Steve Vai`s signature guitar JEM7V. I have not played it jet, so I was simply wondering if it`s worth the money, or if I sould spend my money on a different guitar. It certanly looks cool so visually I love it :)

The particular look of it can't be found on any simple RG.

Also, I don't think there are other RGs with alder (brighter sound) body. I think there are some mahogany (meaty sound, no whammy) models but the rest are all basswood (as in darker sound).

And you know what Vai sounds like with those pickups.

So if you want THAT sound getting a simple RG and swapping the pickups might not get you close enough. Other than that, I've seen many people be very happy with simple RGs and possibly a pickup swap.

Actually I think high-end RGs reach close to the JEM's price.

So yeah, if you want a high-end Ibanez shredder guitar, you might as well get the JEM.

Well... no.

It's too d*mn expensive for the plays!
Unless you want to be labeled "look, he's trying to be like Vai... wannabe", go for another guitar.

I am not sure if there are any alder RGs, but if not, I'm sure you will be able to find that in some fantastic axes from Yamaha, Jackson or some other good manufacturer.

Remember: always try your gear before you buy it! And DO compare it with other equivalent gear. I keep surprising myself when I do that and you can't immagine how much money I saved by doing that.
