 My music recommendations
The first album from 30STM. In some ways it's my favourite - it's a much less refined sound, it's a more surreal concept album and has been classified as "Space Rock" due to the Physics and Space Travel themes used in the songs. I love most of the songs on this album, just about every one of them has a catchy, grungy guitar riff to hook you. The vocals are of course par excellence; this is Jared Leto we're talking about. The best song on the album has to be the bizarre Buddha For Mary. Check it out!
Love him or hate him, Jared's a talented guy. He writes the music, lyrics, directs the band's videos and does all the vocals and rhythm guitar - as well as balancing extensive touring and an acting career. This album is much more polished than the rough, edgy shredding to be found in the band's first self-titled release. This album went platinum in the US and continues to sell well worldwide, with memorable tracks such as "Attack", "The Kill" and "From Yesterday". The album also includes softer, much more mellow tracks such as "Hunter"- a Bjork cover - and "A Modern Myth" that really showcase Leto's amazing voice. Personal favourite track? It would have to be the crazy bonus track "Battle of One". The drums and rhythmic synth and guitars seem hell-bent on creating a rising frenzy - accompanied by Leto's frantic screams. It does indeed create the sense of a frenzied battle. When they play this one at the live shows, the mosh pit CRUSHES you. :D
AFI has matured from an angry punk band in the days of "Very proud of ya" and "Answer that and stay fashionable" to the fantastic band they are now. Using experimental synth sounds alongside Jade Puget's jaw-dropping guitar and Davey's soaring vocals, the band sounds better than ever. Highly recommended!
Nick 13 and the boys lay down some Psychobilly excellence in the fourth album release from Tiger Army. They've fine tuned their sound and found their musical niche; every single track on this album is a perfectly crafted foot-tapping, lively song with fantastic rockabilly style bass from the stand-up bass, classic drums and unbeatable guitar riffs and vocals from the multi-talented tattooed frontman Nick 13. I can't recommend this album strongly enough to anybody. One of my favourite bands, and this is by far their best album. Go get it!
