 My music recommendations
I've heard the promo cd. It's outstanding. I really liked "Life is Killing Me" & "World Coming Down" but I have to say, "Dead Again" is arguable the best material Type O has created since "October Rust." It's got the slow haunting tones of "Haunted" and the more mellow stuff like "Burnt Flowers." Still, sometimes within the same song, it'll shift from that more mellow tone to an absolute balls-to-the-walls thrash that we remember from the early days with songs from "Slow Deep and Hard" & "Origin of Feces" and even before with Carnivore-esque stuff. And there's the punk stylings as well like in the title song, "Dead Again." Personally, I feel that this is an album that totally encompasses Type O's career. It's a very personal album. Peter Steele really dug deep on this one. He spent some time in the clink for "accidently punching some guy in the face 50 times." Also, there was the death of his mother and his good friend Dimebag Darrell and his battle with drug addiction. All this since "Life is Killing Me." Sonically, it's got the same classic Type O sound as always but it's also got some new tones. The song "These Three Things," that plays when you go to www.typeonegative.net, is like 14 minutes long. Seriously, it's epic. Just the range in that one song is unbelievable. The entire second half of that song has got a totally new kind of feel while still feeling very familiar. It is a must have for any Type O fan... or any rock fan, really. Type O Negative, while still maintaining their roots and what they're most known for, have become an honest 100% hard rock band. Call them what you will, but they are genuinely a great heavy-as-fuck rock band. So go buy the cd. Or at least pre-order it. It's totally worth it.
Anything by BRMC is gonna be pretty killer. This is a classic sounding rock album. Not a "classic rock" album, though. It's a little differently sonically than the bands previous releases but it's downright rockin'. Chances are, if you think you've never heard a BRMC song, you're wrong. You probably didn't know it. I've seen a handful of TV shows in the past few months that have featured a BRMC song somewhere within an episode. Most recently the song "Fault Line" in the series BONES, which airs on Fox. This album is rife with acoustic guitars, harmonicas, and the occasional electric guitar which is mostly used to spice up the rhythm section. The album is a "life" album. It speaks of the ups and downs one may have. The more uptempo, upbeat songs like "Shuffle Your Feet" and "Ain’t No Easy Way" will most certainly get your foot tappin' and head bobbin'. Of all the songs on the album, I'd have to say that "Fault Line" is my favorite. It's so simple. Just an acoustic and a singer. BRMC draw influence from a few genres. Gospel... blues... britpop... But, all-in-all, this is a rock 'n' roll album. And a damn good one.
This is an AMAZING disc that, in my opinion, everybody should own. It's by far one of the most catchy brit rock/pop recordings of all time. It's not a heavy album in a traditional sense, but the way it's presented and the overall tone of the musicians and their voices makes it feel extremely heavy. Especially with the title track, "Leaders of the Free World." The songs range from slow and ambient to just good kickass dirty rock.
3 words: Geico. Caveman. Commercial. Yes folks. It's not only a commercial soundtrack it's a song from Norway's own Royksopp. Such an outstanding electropop/rock cd. Not a bad song on it and, in my opinion, the whole thing is so very catchy. This cd is the definition of chillout music. I love having this on when i'm driving to work at the crack of dawn. It puts me in such a good mood. It just sounds so damn good. -Hetjr
