woods and the body

Body / woods

Really what the body boils down is what wood it is made of as far as the sound is effected but there is also the shape which is all of the guitars style pretty much. So, there so many types of wood but I'll just go over a few. Lacewood, walnut, maple, mahogany, alder, and bass wood.

O.K. let's start with lace wood it is sort of an all pourpous wood it has a some what dense outer layer and a softer inner layer. This allows the wood to capture several tones while sorting others out. Lacewood is not outstandingly bright or rich but has a nice clear tone with a wide range. Walnut has open grains so it can go a lot into midrange, and the grain is uniform is tight so the highs and lows come out nicely. There are a few downsides because if the guitar is to heavy or dense it will rob your sound and the pickups need to be perfect if you want the sound to come out right and not totally crappy. Over all walnut captures a smooth high shaply mids and rumbling lows. Maple there is hard and soft maple hard maple. Hard maple is loud with a very strong mid and nice bright highs although the low is a bit quiter and not as outstanding the low is very tight. A big downside to maple's is that although I is loud and clean it is heavy so it can rob your tone like walnut so keep your guitar slim. Soft maple is really just a super lame version of hard maple it still sounds nice but it lacks the outstand high and loud mid of hard maple it is also heavy like hard maple. Mahogany is dense and constant in it's composition but has large open pores so it can have very very sweet lows but the constant density stiffels the mid's a bit and makes the highs a bit thicker and richer so it comes across as a one tone in all strings. Its just richer than other woods. Now , basswood is soft with tight grains and cheep. Being soft and cheep it is what the factories would prefer because it is easy to work with and easy on tools so it makes everything else cheaper too. The sound coming out of this wood is a bit plain with smooth highs and dampened lows and mids. Nothing is to dampned or to over the top so it is has a basic typical fundamental sound.
