I am so amazed at all of the guitar sites that are making money online. Some of them are absolutely repulsive. The amounts of over advertising on these websites is incredible. I visited someones site a while ago, he must of had 100 different banners on one page. When things start flashing, spinning, bouncing and blasting, I make a quick click to exit. I never really noticed it until I became a webmaster (builder of websites). Now that I understand that when ever these advertisements get clicked on,  the guitar websites owners have an opportunity to make some money. When I came across the term "affiliate" I began to get really curious about how this money was being made on the internet. There are a few guitar  affiliate programs that are the most popular, I continually see them as I am surfing the web. Websites owners can make some pretty good money if they have a large amount of traffic. This is one of the ways My Space became such a gold mine. Making money on advertisements income  is the very heart beat of Googles 17 billion dollar a year company. I have to say one of the things that I was so impressed with about Guitar.com  when I joined is that it is a very nicely designed guitar site, without a bunch of advertisements yelling at you all the time. They just seem to blend  in very nicely.
