Notes on the 1st String

Now that you know how to identify the note names, I'm going to teach you where the notes actually are on the fingerboard. We'll start with the notes on the 1st string: E, F and G. We're going to do a few exercises going back and forth smoothly between the three notes. Now, constantly quiz yourself by looking at a piece of music and identifying the note names. That way, when it comes time to play, you'll have one less thing to worry about.

Fun Licks

In this lesson I'll teach you a few fun riffs, or licks. You'll use the single notes that we learned to make up these riffs. These lines can be the part of the song that's the most memorable. Sometimes all you need to hear is the riff and you instantly know the song. The lick is usually repeated several times in a tune. The examples that I put together were meant to be in the style of songs that you already know. You'll have fun with them.

I'll also give you a few more tips to help you move smoothly between the chords. The songs that we'll be playing use G, G7, C, D7, and the new Amin and Emin chords. It's really starting to sound like music now!
