Killer Mitmas Trees

The "Mitmas" is how my toddler says Christmas...just thought it was cool.
Progress on the music front...I've learned how to pick out a couple of melodies, such as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb". Freaking sweet, huh? I'll be able to rock shows at all the local preschools. I need some help; some sort of inspiration aside from that of my 19 month old begging for "Twinkle Star". I've been listening to the radio, which I never do, to hear what the kids are listening to these days, and all I get is My Chemical Romance, which are a bunch of effing tools. I could play songs about my parents bringing me down, but they stopped doing that 6 years ago when I moved out and became an adult. I could write something, but I can't write music. Years of musical training, and I only use music to see where the notes are going; I can't sing an A on command, I just get the first note and go from there. Stupid, I know.
Anyway, I'm thinking I'll just pick around the guitar, find something that sounds good and write it down in an incoherent, non-musical way that only I can understand. Lyrics are the easy part...I'm a born lyricist. I've been writing and singing since the dawn of time, so lyrics will be no problem. I just have to find some music to put them to. I may break down and buy a book. I hate to think that I have to do that, but without real guitar lessons, how else will I learn and be able to fulfill my standards for what I'm trying to do? No "Guitar for Dummies"...maybe some beginners guitar thing. Nothing with another artist's music in it; I want to figure that stuff out on my own.
I've been working on my voice a lot lately. I'm trying to get my range back. I used to be able to sing a lot higher than I can now. But, with the vocal exercises I've been doing, I've been making a lot of progress. The best thing I can do is pop in a cd on the way to school and sing along really loud. It really opens my vocal chords back up. I can project a lot better, and my range is improving by the day. That's the easy part for me, though. Singing is simple if you have a natural talent. I know that sounds cocky, but I've been a singer all my life. I would hope I have talent.
I am in the process of fixing my video recording system, so I won't have videos for a while. But when I do, I'm going to start making a video blog in the place of the written one. Until next time...
