pick up the speed

I've discovered a routine of exercises that worked for me and might work for you. I like to do these practices once a day and it really works if you want to pick up the speed on your soloing and help with alternate picking.

It is all up and down hits and if your not that experienced in fast up and down string hitting then this practice might not be for you.

--9-12-9---------9-11-9------------------
----------9-10-9---------9-10-9----------
------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------ Just repeat that several times.
This second exercise I use and it is all down strokes so if you were one of those people who are not that good at fast up and down hitting, this might be more up your ally.

-------7p9------7p9---
--7p9------7p9--------
-----------------------Keep playing it several times
These practice riffs I gave you can be played any where on the fret board. I just play them where I feel most comfortable. For those that just starting to learn how to solo, you should take it slow at first and progress in slowly and by the end of the week I bet you'll be able to these riffs like nothing. One thing is that those P up on exercise 2 I showed you, that means to pull off, just pull your finger off the string before it stops ringing to get a real cool sound from your guitar. That's it, have fun.
