Fender launches the Flea Signature Active Jazz Bass
This snazzy four-string could be your next soul to squeeze.
Fender has unveiled the Flea Signature Active Jazz Bass. This axe is the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist’s second signature model and, true to his off-kilter style, has an arresting design and booming sonic appointments.
Built for powerful stadium rock, this four-string features a single, Tim Shaw-designed Fender Custom Humbucking pickup at the bridge. That’s wired to an Aguilar OBP-1 18-volt preamp, which is capable of issuing up to 18dB of boost. Controls include master volume, treble and bass knurled dome knobs.
Another highlight is the signature model’s custom-crafted Jazz Bass body, which is made from alder and coated in a classy satin polyurethane finish. Rounding out the bass’ features are a couple of appointments that enhance playability: a smooth, C-shape quartersawn maple neck and a maple fretboard with a 12- to 16-inch compound radius.
Hardware on the bass is fairly standard, but it does have a four-saddle HiMass bridge and an engraved custom neck plate designed by Flea himself.
We’ll let the bassist complete the introduction here:
