Leon Bridges’ single with John Mayer, Inside Friend, has received a new music video. Its footage was shot at the individual homes of both artists, while self-isolated for COVID-19. Take a look above.

The soulful single was first released last month, and would see its proceeds donated towards MusiCare’s COVID-19 relief fund – which financially supports artists, producers and workers in the music industry.

According to Bridges, the duo penned the song during an impromptu jam session in 2019, after “joking around in the studio about what an ideal date for an introvert” would be. Bridges told Rolling Stone: “I tour most of the year, so I’d rather invite a gal over to lounge comfortably in the crib as opposed to go out somewhere crowded”.

He later revealed that the song had initially been shelved, but was unearthed and completed this year due to its relevance to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Inside Friend stayed on the backburner for a while because it didn’t fit within the context of my third project, but the current state we’re in globally compelled us to dig this back up and finish it. I hope people find it soothing and uplifting while we hole up indoors and get through this.”

This year, both Bridges and Mayer have faced tour disruptions as a result of COVID-19. Mayer was set to embark on a summer long trek with Dead & Company, while Bridges was to perform at the now-postponed Bonnaroo Music Festival on 14 June.
