More than three decades after they collaborated with Run-DMC, Aerosmith have once again bridged the worlds of hip hop and rock. The band performed “Dream on” and “Toys in the Attic” at Monday’s MTV Video Music Awards—and they were accompanied by Post Malone, one of the hottest pop/hip hop artists of the moment.

The set began with Post Malone, real name Austin Post, performing his hit track “Rockstar,” together with guitarist Andrew Watt and rapper 21 Savage. He then grabbed a crystal-studded Telecaster, before the curtains pulled back to reveal the Boston Bad Boys. Without skipping a beat, the band launched into the two iconic tunes, with Post on backing guitars and vocals.

Post, despite his hip hop-leaning tracks, is known to be a huge fan of rock ’n’ roll, often appearing on stage with a Martin OOO-15. He’s even fond of covering Nirvana, Bob Dylan and Green Day at his concerts.

Aerosmith, on the other hand, are primed to have a busy calendar year ahead of them. They recently announced a Las Vegas residency, from April to July 2019 at the Park MGM.
