Learning-Paganini Caprice 1

Well, this is a bit different then. Me playing Niccolò Paganini's first caprice, well the first 20 seconds of it anyway. This caprice has some insanely fast arpeggios which are hard to adapt to the guitar, but I did my best not to rape the whole passage.

I first show the lick at 170bpm which is pretty much my limit right now. The original goes over 230bpm so yeah, it's kinda fast! After that I show it slowed down so you guys can try it too. The first caprice is in E major and so it follows the chords of the E major scale mostly. Of course, the real trick in this one is the double stop in the highest note of each arpeggio and yes, I do pick each note, so should you.

For this Yngwie-ish sort of shred piece I've got my great custom-made sunburst Rhoads with Dimarzio HS-3 pickups. This goes into my usual practice setup of DOD YJM308 Overdrive into Peavey Studio Pro 112 amp.

I hope you won't be too harsh to me for trying something like this, and I hope this was somewhat useful to you. I'll perhaps have more Paganini to show you as soon as I have the time to practice, record and post it here. Meanwhile, have fun with this one!

DiMarzio DP117 HS-3 Guitar Pickup White
Yes, another Yngwie-favourite. Though my setup is very different from his, I still like the hum-free single-coil sound that these pickups create.

DOD YJM308 Yngwie J Malmsteen Signature Overdrive Pedal
Kind of cheesy, I know, but this pedal is actually very good. It doesn't give the "Yngwie" sound by itself, only when used in a similar setup. It's basically a closer match to the old gray DOD 250 overdrive. All in all it's a great pedal and works well with both tube and solid state amps.

Dunlop Delrin Standard Guitar Pick 1.50MM 1 Dozen
Don't leave home without 'em. These picks are good for my style of playing and I can better control the force of each note with these 1.50mm picks. Good basic guitar picks.
