An exciting taste of post pop-punk. With the excellent playing of guitarist Ian D'Sa, Billy Talent takes punk back to basics and brings it into the 21st century.
Black Holes & Revelations will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions, as in Muse's latest effort combines, hard-rocking guitar with blissful synthesizers, and surreal vocals. This album does not so much create songs as it does create intricate layered soundscapes to escape into.
Bonobo's latest album takes you to new places that will be loved by both Bonobo die-hards, and people new to the world of Ninja Tunes, Lo-Fi and Simon Green. Although this album (with a second intrumental disc) has many great songs on it, I especially recommend "if you came over". This album deserves a place in everyone's collection, regardless of genre allegiance.
An interesting dichotomy exists between the two sides of Gimme Fiction. On the one hand, there exists this upbeat, fun, poppy side that can be heard on songs such as "I turn my camera on" and yet at the same time Spoon is able to make some serious and powerful tracks like "I summon you". If one thing can be said about this album, its that nothing is wasted, every drum beat, strummed chord, and eclectic hook has obviously been well thought out and is used sparingly. Furthermore, although this is a great album put forth by these America-based indie rockers, there isn't anything revolutionary about the songs. None of the musical themes in Gimme Fiction haven't been done on many occassions by others in the past, Spoon just seems to do them better. At the end of the day, Spoon's most recent effort is a tight, well composed venture into rock, but it certainly wont change your view of the world, and probably not even rock....that's not to say it isn't great to listen to.
