Our verdict

Superb protection in a stylish and lightweight case, at a relatively high price

Reunion Blues is a California-based company that’s been producing high-quality gigbags since the 1970s. The Continental Voyager series is one of several variations, imported into the UK by Dynamic Music Distribution.

The item under review here is a dreadnought-size acoustic gig bag – the Reunion Blues range accommodates instruments of many different sizes (small body, dreadnought, classical etc). Our Continental Voyager has been road-tested for a few months before writing this review, housing a large-body resonator guitar. Resonators are notorious for developing rattles, so a strong case is a must.

The level of protection offered is superb: the company infamously dropped one of these bags from a rooftop as part of its PR campaign, with the guitar remaining unhurt. This must be down to the high-tech-sounding materials, including an impact-resistant ‘Flexoskeleton’ design and an outer layer made of Quadraweave, which is designed to weather well.

Reunion Blues Continental Voyager feature

On the inside, there’s a neck block which prevents the guitar from shifting around, and at the bottom are movable pads to stop the strap button taking any impact. It’s got plenty of pocket space for accessories, yet the standout feature is the ‘Zero G’ handle. It’s very spongy to hold and extremely comfortable. There are other carrying options, too: the shoulder straps, which can be zipped away when not required, or the ‘subway grip’, for moving the bag vertically or pulling it out the back of a tour van easily.

This is a good-looking piece of guitar luggage that will keep your instrument safe very effectively, and it’s easy to transport. If it’s within your budget, we highly recommend you audition one.
